I was talking to a friend the other day. She’d just broken up with her boyfriend and was pretty broken up about it. I was trying to help her look forward to her next fella (and there will be another one) and a good quality she should look for in him. I told her that she should look for the last potato chip kinda guy. “What’s that?” you ask. Well I’ll tell ya…
My sweetie is the nicest man I’ve ever met. We go at it sometimes. I’m not saying everything is always perfect, but I know of a surety that he is perfect for me. You know how you’re eating a bag of chips and the last few chips in the bag (before the crumbs) is always the best? My hubby is the kind of man that if I ask him for the last few chips in the bag he’ll give them to me just because I asked. No matter how bad he wants those chips or cookies or last piece of chicken (the big one), all I have to do is ask and it’s mine. That’s love!
Today we had to leave home at 5:45 a.m. to get to a graduation by 8 a.m. Correction, I had to leave but my sweetie went with me because I asked. We were running late so we didn’t have time to get breakfast and since it’s Sunday we were unable to stop and get something to eat. I was already working, I didn’t want to make it worse by shopping on Sunday as well. I was, however, able to snag 4 of my caramel shortbread candies on the way out the door. I figured that we would each get 2 and hopefully there’d be food at the graduation. Guess what… there was no food served at the graduation. HOW BOOTLEG!!!!
I’d eaten my 2 caramels before the graduation had even started. My sweetie, on the other hand, said he could wait. We headed home at 12:30 and by that point my belly was complaining very loudly. We got in the car and headed down the highway and I pulled out the caramels. I gave him the first one and he plunked the whole thing in his mouth. I said, “Babe!!! That was a two-bite carmel! You are supposed to savor it, not gobble it!” I asked him if he was ready for the next one and of course he was.
I decided to test and see if he would give me the last one if I asked for it. I knew he was just as hungry as I was. His mouth looked as if it was set and ready for the next caramel. I said, “Sweetie, can I have the last one?” Without a hesitation he said that I could. Ladies, that just melted my heart. Him giving me his last candy even though he was just as hungry as I was. I love that man. He always puts me first. That’s what love is. When someone else’s needs and desires become more important to you than your own that’s love.
I didn’t eat the candy. I gave it to him because I knew he was hungry, too and I’d already eaten mine. Again, he plunked the whole thing in his mouth. It felt good to see him enjoy it. It felt almost as good as knowing he’d give me his last one just because I asked and because he loves me. My sweetie is a last potato chip kinda guy and I’m very blessed to have him.
